WHAT WE DO

Yes! (Young Entrepreneurs Scheme) for Education

This is a project jointly organized by Generation ACTS Club International (GACI) and ACTSpand Pte Ltd (APL), with the sole aim of allowing youths in GenACTS Youth International (GAYI) an opportunity to harness their entrepreneurial skills for a good cause.

The project involves teams of youths from GAYI who work together to sell products, in which all proceeds from these products go directly towards an education fund for themselves. Youths will have to learn and employ all the skills – the same skills required by any business enterprise – to achieve success and profit the fund. Such a project will also inculcate good intrapersonal values within the participating youths.
GACI and APL hopes that this project will serve as an avenue through which professionals can volunteer their time towards developing and training the youths in relevant business and life skills. Some can even volunteer themselves as mentors, guides and advisors either throughout the project or at various stages of the project.

GACI and APL will provide the necessary management, finance and resource in this project. The education fund will be fully administered by GACI with GAYI.

Objectives:

  1. To inculcate the values of intrapersonal and interpersonal management among the participating youths
  2. To foster greater creativity within a business context for the participating youths
  3. To encourage the values of entrepreneurship and enterprise among the participating youths
  4. To encourage volunteerism among professional adults through their participation with the youths

SUCCESS STORIES

Last year, I was part of the youth committee which plans and organizes the youth club activities. In November last year, we started a new project, called the young entrepreneur scheme (YES!) project. Part of the earnings from this project goes into an Education Fund for the needy students in our youth club.  I was personally motivated by the project mission to help the needy, and started to be involved in the project execution. Our first project was to sell and market Asian jewelry to the local market.

There are many things I learnt in this project – to be creative, responsible, committed, and to work with others in a team. We organized many things in order to kick start the project. As a result, we achieved things which I never thought I could do in my life. We started to have more and more clients coming to buy the jewelry and as a result, our Education Fund started to grow.

In early Jan this year, due to unforeseen financial circumstances, I couldn’t enroll to a preparatory course for university. I didn’t think too much about it then. However, a few weeks later, to my surprise, the youth club offered me a scholarship to study in that course because of my participation and efforts in YES! project. I certainly wasn’t expecting the scholarship at all!

Today, thanks to YES! project and the Education Fund, I am studying hard and preparing myself to enter into a university in the near future.
